Former Deion Sanders nemesis defends Shedeur Sanders over speeding violations

Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders is having a terrible month, at least when it comes to his driving. Sanders has reportedly been cited for two speeding violations in the month of June alone.

Sanders’ first came on June 5, when he was ticketed for going 91 in a 65 mph zone. Then, Sanders was pulled over again earlier this week for going 101 in a 60 mph zone. Records indicate Sanders failed to appear in court for the first violation.

The pair of speeding violations have led to criticism and questions about whether or not Sanders has the maturity to be an NFL quarterback.

However, one former NFL player isn’t going that route. Asante Samuel took to social media to defend Sanders.

“Every player speeds,” Samuel wrote. “This is normal athlete behavior but because his last name is Sanders the haters want to bring as much negative attention as possible. I never seen a community want to tear a player down like we are witnessing.”

You may remember that Samuel and Shedeur’s dad, Deion Sanders, were once involved in an online feud, but the two have since patched that up.

In the wake of his traffic blunders, Sanders has since commented on them during David Njoku’s charity softball game and said he learned from his mistakes.

“I made some wrong choices personally and I can own up to them,” Sanders was heard saying on video, per Mike Florio of  Pro Football Talk. “I made some, you know, not great choices… I learned.”

Does all this mean that Sanders isn’t going to be a success in the NFL? No, but it is fair to be concerned about his poor judgement after not one, but two missteps.

Sanders, who was a fifth-round draft pick in April, is currently battling for the Browns’ starting quarterback job against Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel. At the very least, he’s hoping to simply make the roster.
