EX-CHAMPIONSHIP manager Luke Williams is in advanced talks for a stunning managerial return, reports suggest.

Peterborough are on the market for a new gaffer after sacking Darren Ferguson, son of legendary former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

Posh are bottom of League One, having won just three of the 13 games they have played in the division so far this season.

A 2-1 defeat to Blackpool, who were the previous team propping up the rest of the table, spelled the end of Ferguson’s fourth spell with the club.

And club chiefs are now in advanced talks to appoint Williams as their new boss, according to talkSPORT.

The 44-year-old last managed Swansea before he was sacked in February of this year.

In an effort to pass the time he was out of the beautiful game, Williams was seen taking up a job at Bristol airport.

He was pictured in a high-vis jacket in June.

Injury at the age of 19 prevented Williams from having a fulfilled playing career.

But he pivoted and made his way into coaching, becoming a manager for the first time in 2015 with Swindon after taking an assistant manager role there two years prior.

He lasted two years before eventually joining Notts County in 2022 and then Swansea from 2024.

Williams will have big boots to fill at London Road, given the apprasial of Ferguson by owner Darragh MacAnthony.

McAnthony released a statement after the sacking, but called Ferguson the “greatest manager in the club’s history”.

Peterborough face Cardiff in the FA Cup first round in their next game on November 1.
