Former Burnley captain Josh Brownhill, 29, snubs Premier League football to complete stunning Saudi free transfer

BURNLEY hero Josh Brownhill has snubbed the Premier League to move to Saudi Arabia.

Brownhill, 29, led the Clarets back to the Prem with 18 goals and six assists in 42 appearances last season in the Championship.

However, the midfielder opted against signing a new deal at Turf Moor and left as a free agent in June following five years at the club.

The ex-Bristol City star still had the opportunity to play in the Premier League this season despite leaving Burnley.

Brownhill was targeted by Brentford, Wolves and West Ham during the summer transfer window.

Leicester were also keen following their relegation to the Championship.

However, Brownhill opted for Al-Shabab who gave him a warm reception to the club.

The Saudi giants released a clip in which they presented the central midfielder as a key figure that will help the Middle Eastern nation continue to grow in football.

The ex-Preston North End star revealed he decided to move to Saudi Arabia after manager Imanol Alguacil won him over with his vision.

Brownhill said: “I feel really honoured to join Al-Shabab.

“The way the manager plays – formation, system and the vision that they see – is what really attracted me.

“I’m hoping to score a lot of goals and we’ll be aiming to win some trophies this season.”

Brownhill will be linking up with Atletico Madrid hero Yannick Carrasco as well as former Southampton and Watford ace Wesley Hoedt.
