The Denver Broncos have their quarterback and for the first offseason since Peyton Manning was around, the team doesn’t have to wonder how much longer until they fill that position with a long-term starter.
Bo Nix had a fabulous rookie season, good enough to be the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year more times than not, and the future is incredibly bright as a result. The man he succeeded — Russell Wilson — has been searching for a new place to play quarterback and on Tuesday, he found that.
Wilson has agreed to terms on a one-year, $10.5 million contract with the New York Giants.
It’s a curious move for the Giants, who also signed Jameis Winston as a free agent last week and hold the No. 3 overall pick in next month’s draft. Many presume that pick will be used on a quarterback with Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders both being viable options.
Wilson was traded to the Broncos ahead of the 2022 NFL season and Broncos Country was exuberant over the move. But that quickly dissipated when it seemed that Wilson was not the same player who took the Seattle Seahawks to back-to-back Super Bowls.
Wilson made 30 starts for the Broncos, completing 63.3 percent of his passes while throwing for 6,594 yards with 42 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. But after Sean Payton took over the team in 2023, the two never seemed to click.

Wilson was released following the 2023 season, triggering the biggest dead money salary cap hit in NFL history, $85 million. He then signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a free agent in 2024 and played well for the team, leading them to the playoffs.
But it wasn’t good enough for Steelers brass, who chose not to bring Wilson back. The Steelers currently have no option at quarterback, and if they aren’t able to sign Aaron Rodgers in free agency, they could have some big problems in 2025.
The Broncos are just happy to be rid of all of this drama and moving forward with Nix.
