CHELSEA have recalled a highly-rated striker from a recent loan stint on transfer deadline day.
The Blues haven’t signed new players during the January transfer window.
However, the West Londoners recalled three players from loan – Aaron Anselmino, Gabriel Slonina and Trevoh Chalobah from Boca Juniors, Barnsley and Crystal Palace respectively.
Chelsea announced another notable recall before the winter market comes to a close.
And that is David Datro Fofana, who was sent out on loan to Turkish outfit Goztepe in September.
Fofana, 22, moved to Stamford Bridge in 2023 from Molde and also underwent loan spells at Union Berlin and Burnley.
The forward only managed two goals in nine appearances with Goztepe.
The Ivory Coast international suffered a serious knee injury during his brief spell in Turkey that has sidelined him for the rest of the season.
That led to Fofana’s return following a rather unceremonious exit five months ago.
The centre-forward’s departure went under the radar and so some Chelsea fans were left confused as they actually forgot he was still in the club’s books.
One fan tweeted: “Some Chelsea fans have forgotten Datro Fofana is still a Chelsea player.”
Another commented: “I thought we sold him off already.”
A third wrote: “I didn’t even know he’s still on loan.”
This fan said: “I thought they terminated the loan.”
And that one wondered: “What?”
