Lightweight contenders Floyd Schofield vs. Lucas Badhi are negotiating for a fight to be staged on the June 28th undercard of Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on DAZN PPV from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Although Bahdi (19-0, 15 KOs) is unbeaten and ranked #6 WBA and #9 IBF, this isn’t the opponent that Schofield, 22, needs to make fans forget him pulling out of his title fight against WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson on February 22nd. Schofield needs to fight someone a lot better than Bahdi, 31, to help redeem himself.

Jake Paul-Chavez Jr. Card

Manouk Akopyan is reporting on X that Schofield vs. Bahdi are in talks for a fight on the Paul-Chavez Jr. card on June 28th.

The six-year pro Bahdi’s biggest win came last year when he knocked out Ashton Sylve in the sixth round on July 20th. If Bahdi can fight like that against Schofield, he’d have a decent chance of winning. It’s just that he’s never looked that good before or since that victory. Bahdi would likely resort to his normal self and get beaten by the younger fighter if their fight does get made for June 28th.

Last week, Schofield mentioned that Abdullah Mason’s team had asked if he we were interested in fighting. He was agreeable, but there was no follow-up from them. Floyd Sr. mentioned wanting $2.5 million, but there were no negotiations. That gave Schofield Sr. the impression that his son’s name was mentioned for promotional purposes without serious intent from Team Mason.

Schofield, ranked #2 WBA and #11 IBF, needs to keep winning to put himself in a position to potentially become a mandatory for him to be given another chance. It’s too bad that he came down with an illness and had to pull out of the fight with Shakur, because with the way the Newark, New Jersey native looked against replacement opponent Josh Padley, he’d have beaten him that night. Schofield’s power and youth would have been a problem for Stevenson.
