Filip Hrgovic’s Redemption: Can He Overcome Stamina Issues Against David Adeleye?

Filip Hrgovic’s Redemption: Can He Overcome Stamina Issues Against David Adeleye?

Filip Hrgovic says his amateur and professional experience will prove to be too much for British heavyweight David Adeleye in their 10-round fight on August 16th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Stamina Concerns for Filip Hrgovic

Stamina-wise, there are a lot of question marks about Hrgovic. He gassed out in both of his last two fights against Joe Joyce and Daniel Dubois. That problem will still be there on August 16th.

It’s a fight where Hrgovic, 33, has to prove that he can beat this fringe-level heavyweight. This is someone that the top heavyweights should be able to defeat without any problems. On paper, Adeleye lacks the skills and the pedigree needed to compete against Hrgovic unless he’s lost something from his game after his knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in June 2024.

Hrgovic-Adeleye are fighting on the undercard of Moses Itauma vs. Dillian Whyte on August 16th. The event will be shown live on DAZN PPV for $49.99. This fight is one of the more interesting ones on the card, and could prove to be more exciting than the main event.

David Adeleye: Stepping Up Again

Adeleye (14-1, 13 KOs) is being thrown in with the 2016 Olympic bronze medalist Hrgovic (18-1, 14 KOs) in a big step up for the London native. He already failed once, getting knocked out by Fabio Wardley in 2023,

Hrgovic: “Every Fight Is A Risk”

“I think I’m much more experienced as a professional and an amateur. I think I’m on a different level, but every fight is a risk,” said Filip Hrgovic to the Ring Magazine channel, talking about his fight against David Adeleye on August 16th.

It’s a bad sign that Hrgovic was forced to go the 10-round distance to defeat the 39-year-old Joe Joyce last April. That should have been an easy win for Hrgovic, but his power wasn’t good enough to dent Joyce’s chin.

“You can’t underestimate anyone. I’m training really hard, and I’m confident that I’ll beat him. I screwed up against Dubois,” said Filip. “I looked really bad. I think I’m one of the best fighters out there, and I have put all my life into boxing.”

The last thing Hrgovic can afford is to overlook Adeleye because this guy can punch. He’s not great technically, but he has power that could be a problem for Hrgovic if the fight goes into the second half.

“Twenty years in boxing, and I, of course, have a big desire to be a world champion. After that loss, this is my second attempt. Hopefully, I’ll do it this time. I’ll do everything that I can,” said Hrgovic.
