FIFA has acknowledged that United States government officials will have the final say on World Cup host cities.
It comes after vice president of the football governing body, Victor Montagliani, initially suggested that FIFA makes the key decisions on such matters.

On Thursday, Donald Trump claimed that FIFA would “easily” move 2026 World Cup matches if he asked as a result of safety concerns.
The President of the United States said: “If somebody is doing a bad job, and if I feel there are unsafe conditions, I would call Gianni, the head of FIFA, who’s phenomenal, and I would say, ‘Let’s move it to another location’.
“And he would do that. He wouldn’t love to do it, but he’d do it very easily.
“He’d do it and this is the right time to do it.”

Trump also claimed that he would consider doing the same for the 2028 Olympic Games, which are currently set to take place in Los Angeles.
He continued: “I could say the same thing for the Olympics. If I thought L.A. was not going to be prepared properly, I would move it to another location.
“If I had to on that one, I’d probably have to get a different kind of a permission, but we would do that.”
Montagliani revealed earlier this month that FIFA has the deciding say on tournament venues.
The FIFA vice president said: “FIFA makes those decisions. With all due respect to current world leaders, football is bigger than them and football will survive their regime and their government and their slogans.”
FIFA officials currently believe here are no issues with any of the 16 host cities across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Out of the 16 stadiums lined up to host World Cup games next year, two are in Canada, three are in Mexico and the remaining 11 are in the US.
The English FA is reportedly holding talks with former Three Lions captain David Beckham about using Inter Miami’s training ground for the tournament.
