Ferrari will end its five-year hiatus from the British GT Championship as AF Corse is set to contest the 2025 season full-time with a 296 GT3.

AF Corse will run the car under its Spirit of Race banner with drivers Duncan Cameron and Matt Griffin, who have six series wins together and finished third in the 2010 standings. 

This team/driver combination also started Ferrari’s last British GT race, at Snetterton for the penultimate round of 2020, a year where Cameron and Griffin drove six of nine rounds aboard a 488 GT3.

The duo are therefore set to have raced all five Ferrari GT3 models in the championship after previously using the 488, 458 Italia, F430 Scuderia and first-generation F430.

“There aren’t too many places we haven’t raced a Ferrari together,” said Cameron. “But it all began in British GT and I’m looking forward to being back in the paddock this year.

“We didn’t quite manage to win with the 488 but very much intend to give the 296 its first victory in the UK. It’s an unknown quantity here, which could play to our advantage.” 

Cameron and Griffin already have experience racing the 296, having taken a class victory at Circuit Paul Ricard during the 2024 European Le Mans Series.

“We know the car, we know the team and we certainly know each other,” said Griffin.

“We have to get up to speed on the Pirellis but otherwise we are really hoping to make a splash this year with what is a very capable car.

“That’s proven by the 296 GT3 claiming 100 wins all over the world in its first season of competition last year.”

A Ferrari was due to compete in the 2024 Silverstone 500 but the Sky Tempesta entry, also run by AF Corse, withdrew after its driver Alexander West crashed in first practice.

Yet intentions to bring the historic Italian marque back to the British series remained, with FF Corse announcing its plans to do so last August. 

Although the successful Ferrari Challenge outfit is still hopeful of contesting this season, it is currently unclear if its efforts will prevail with AF Corse the first of the 2025 entries to be announced.

The nine-round season starts at Donington Park on 5-6 April and will also end at the Leicestershire-based track on 4-5 October.
