Falcons set steep asking price for Kyle Pitts amid trade interest, per NFL insider

The Atlanta Falcons may soon be forced to make a major decision on one of the most polarizing players on their team.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, “multiple teams have reached out to the Falcons about the availability of TE Kyle Pitts.” While Schultz notes that “nothing is imminent” and Atlanta would still prefer to keep him, it would reportedly take “at least a Day 2 pick to even spark serious talks.”

Pitts, 24, was once viewed as a generational prospect coming out of Florida, ultimately becoming the highest-drafted tight end in NFL history when the Falcons selected him fourth overall in 2021. But in four seasons, he has failed to live up to that billing. Despite a 1,000-yard rookie campaign, Pitts has just 2,651 yards and 10 touchdowns to date — disappointing production for a player drafted that high.

Now entering the final year of his rookie deal, after Atlanta exercised his fifth-year option, Pitts’ future with the team is in question. Even with new head coach Raheem Morris and offensive coordinator Zac Robinson hoping to spark a turnaround, Pitts’ role and impact remain uncertain.

When asked recently what he wants to see from Pitts this season, Robinson kept it straightforward.

“For Kyle, it’s just how can he take that next step of, you know, next level of detail, next level of consistency. All those kind of things we’ve talked about with him, and talked about in the past,” Robinson said. “He’s in Year 2 of the system and I think what we’ve always talked about with Kyle is just — play fast. No matter what, play fast, take the thinking out involved with it.”

While respectful, Robinson’s comments weren’t exactly a ringing endorsement. They seemed to reflect some of the frustration surrounding Pitts’ performance to date — particularly in his effort, consistency, and overall production.

The Falcons’ offensive nucleus — including Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and last year’s draft quarterback Michael Penix Jr. — is expected to be the foundation for Atlanta. Pitts may not be part of that long-term vision, especially if a team offers a Day 2 pick and takes on the challenge of unlocking his full potential.

For now, Pitts remains in Atlanta. But with trade chatter already picking up and his contract nearing its end, his time in a Falcons uniform could be winding down.
