“I became a victim of my own success,” Wardley said during a joint interview with Dubois. “I got too comfortable with the fact that I caught him in the first 10 seconds of the fight. He went down, caught him in the third, and he went down again.”
Wardley treats the loss as a collection of missed opportunities. That overlooks the adjustments Dubois made after surviving the early trouble.
Dubois raised his guard, worked behind a stiff jab, and shut down the gaps Wardley capitalized on early. Once the champion timed those looping power shots, the momentum shifted completely. Wardley carried no counter. He discarded his lead hand entirely, loading up on every swing in search of a knockout blow.
That frantic pace burned valuable energy and gave Dubois clear sight of every incoming punch. Wardley also left his chin parked on the center line, giving the champion an open target to snap home continuous straight punches.

That raw approach stunned Dubois early, but it left Wardley without the foundational ring craft required to alter his attack once the champion timed him. Deep-rooted technical tendencies are hard to overhaul, and ingraining sound fundamentals over a single training camp remains a massive hurdle.
