FA launch investigation into Crystal Palace fans’ Marinakis banner which unhappy Nottingham Forest view as ‘xenophobic’

THE FA is investigating a banner by Crystal Palace fans showing Evangelos Marinakis with a gun to Morgan Gibbs-White’s head.

The banner was unfurled in the Lower Holmesdale Stand, where the Holmesdale Fanatics supporters’ group sits, at Selhurst Park during Sunday’s fiery 1-1 draw between the two sides.

The FA is weighing up a punishment given it has strict rules in regard to banners containing foul language, political or offensive slogans.

The banner will no doubt stoke even more flames between the two clubs following a summer which saw Palace demoted from the Europa League after breaking Uefa’s multi-club ownership rules, while Forest took their place.

Palace chairman Steve Parish said the decision was “the biggest injustice in the history of football.”

Forest are reportedly fuming that Palace did not take stricter action to prevent the banner being displayed on Sunday, which they view as xenophobic.

It is understood the club feel more could be done from Palace bigwigs like Parish who have not publicly criticised the banner.

Loud chants of “f*** Uefa and f*** Marinakis” could also be heard throughout the match which saw goals from Ismaila Sarr and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

SunSport has chosen not to show the banner.

Meanwhile, doubts surround Nuno Espirito Santo’s future as Forest manager amid reports of a clash with Marinakis.

SunSport exclusively revealed that Ange Postecoglou, Jose Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers are all under consideration for the job.

And Nuno refused to rule out an exit before deadline day.

He said: “(Staying?) I cannot answer that question.

“I am working and trying to do my job the best I can.”
