Chatham break century long hiatus

Chatham Town will break a 97-year wait to play in the FA Cup proper when they travel to Buxton.

The seventh-tier side booked their place in the first round after Saturday’s 3-1 win against Tonbridge Angels.

Tonbridge play two tiers above in the National League South.

The club’s best result in the competition was reaching the quarter-finals 1889/89.

Lowest ranked side

Maldon and Tiptree play their league football in the Isthmian League North Division and are the lowest-ranked side left in the competition.

Originally founded as Maldon Town in 1946, they added the Tiptree name in 2009 in a merger with Tiptree United.

They reached the FA Cup first round proper for the first-time ever in the 2019/20 season, where they beat Leyton Orient to make it to the second round.

The Jammers will be hoping for a repeat of that when they take on Port Vale.

Wilshere v Savage

Former England and Arsenal star Jack Wilshere was appointed as the new boss of Luton Town today.

The FA Cup first round draw will be just his fourth game in charge of the Hatters.

And if Robbie Savage can guide his team past Worthing tonight, that will set up a juicy tie in the first round proper.
