Garrett Greene was a star quarterback at West Virginia.
But if he makes it in the NFL, it’ll be at a different position.
Greene was recently signed as an undrafted free agent by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but not to be a QB.
He’ll be following the famous Julian Edelman path of small college quarterback to NFL wide receiver.
“It’s hard to make the NFL as a 5-foot-10 quarterback,” Greene told Jim Henry of the Tallahassee Democrat. “When I started playing football in middle school, high school, I also played receiver and am pretty comfortable with doing that. I just thought it was my best way to make an impact on an NFL roster.”
Greene appeared in 45 games at WVU, throwing for 5,370 yards and 36 TDs while running for 2,136 yards and 28 more scores.

He did catch four passes for 32 yards during the 2022 season.
Greene has a familiar face in Tampa Bay. Blaine Stewart is the Buccaneers’ new offensive quality control coach after working on the offensive staff at West Virginia.
And yes, Greene has been thinking about Edelman the whole time through this move.
“That’s the guy, I wouldn’t say idolized, but the guy I’m trying to model my trajectory on,” Greene said.
Greene is certainly a quick and sturdy athlete with strong running ability. We’ll see if he can stick around.
