Ex-Premier League side name former Arsenal star Jack Wilshere, 33, as No1 choice to take over as manager amid struggles

JACK WILSHERE is reportedly Luton’s number one choice to take over as manager.

The former Arsenal star has been out of work since leaving Norwich in the summer.

Wilshere joined the Canaries as first team coach in October 2024 and oversaw the final two games of the season as caretaker manager following Johannes Hoff Thorup’s sacking, winning one and drawing one.

He missed out on the manager’s job to Liam Manning but looks set to land his first managerial role.

Wilshere, 33, is Luton’s preferred choice to take over from Matt Bloomfield, who was sacked this week, according to the BBC.

Luton have struggled in League One this season with five defeats in their opening 11 matches following back-to-back relegations.

The Hatters are understood to have also considered Leyton Orient boss Richie Wellens for the role.

But they appear to be swayed by Wilshere, who spent more than two years in charge of Arsenal Under-18s following his retirement from playing in 2022.

The former England star led the U18s to the final of the 2023 FA Youth Cup, losing to West Ham.

That Gunners side included Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly, who have since broken into the first-team.

Wilshere won 34 England caps and played 197 matches for Arsenal.

He also had loan spells at Bolton early in his career and later Bournemouth, and he joined West Ham from Arsenal in 2018 before a moving back to the Cherries and finally Danish side AGF.
