FORMER Manchester United ace Marcos Rojo has suffered a double nightmare – by scoring an own goal and breaking a team-mate’s SKULL in the same game.

The Argentine defender spent seven years with the Red Devils, helping them win the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup.

Rojo made 122 United appearances – scoring twice – before joining home-country club Boca Juniors in 2021.

He moved on to their league rivals Racing Club in August, and played in their Copa Libertadores clash at Flamengo on Wednesday night.

But the Brazilian side won the semi-final first leg 1-0 thanks to a late strike from Jorge Carrascal, that deflected in off centre-back Rojo.

The 35-year-old then accidentally floored his fellow defender Santiago Sosa with a flailing elbow as both players leapt to head a high cross.

Sosa suffered a fractured upper jawbone and bloodied right eye, and was rushed to hospital in Rio de Janeiro.

He is set to miss the second leg of the Copa semi next week, and Racing fear he could be sidelined until December.

Rojo said: “It’s not the result we wanted.

“But we played well until the end against strong opponents on a difficult pitch.

“Carrascal took a shot that deflected off a team-mate, hit me on the leg, and our keeper Nazareno Colombo couldn’t stop it.

“It was an unfair outcome, but we can turn the result around in front of our own fans.

“Flamengo will have a lot of pressure.  Let’s see if they can live with us.”
