Ex-Chiefs QB wants NFL comeback after multiple years away

The Kansas City Chiefs are all set at quarterback for the foreseeable future.

But one of Patrick Mahomes’ past backups might soon be seeking an NFL comeback.

Fansided’s Wynston Wilcox suggested Tuesday that Jordan Ta’amu might turn his strong play in the UFL into a return to the NFL.

Ta’amu was last in the NFL as a practice squad player in 2023.

He never played in an actual game, but he spent time with the Chiefs, Texans, Lions and Vikings.

Ta’amu has been a star in spring football.

In 2023, he was the XFL Offensive Player of the Year for the DC Defenders.

In 2022, he led the USFL in passing yards and passing touchdowns.

This season back with the Defenders in the new UFL, Ta’amu has thrown for 1,990 yards and 16 touchdowns, both tops in the league. DC is 6-2 with Ta’amu at the helm.

“There’s no better time to try and get back into the NFL as a quarterback than 2025,” Wilcox writes. “Redemption stories are popping up left and right: Sam Darnold is the most prevalent, earning his way from being a top pick, to back up to now earning $30 million a year. Same with Geno Smith.”

Ta’amu played his college ball at Ole Miss. Wilcox actually goes as far to suggest the 49ers should sign Ta’amu as Brock Purdy’s backup.

Regardless of where, if Ta’amu gets back into the NFL, it’d be a great story.
