Ex-Chelsea star Oscar, 34, ‘to retire from football’ as heart condition identified following training ground collapse

TWO-TIME Premier League winner Oscar is reportedly set to call time on his career after being diagnosed with a medical issue.

The former Chelsea midfielder received the diagnosis after collapsing in training last month.

He was rushed to hospital after he lost consciousness while doing work on an exercise bike.

Oscar currently plays for Sao Paulo – the club where he also came through.

The 34-year-old hasn’t trained since the incident as he’s been taking time to weigh up his options.

According to Brazilian outlet Globo, Oscar has had talks over his future with the club and has informed them he would like to retire and a formal announcement is expected in the days ahead.

If he does choose to retire, then he can look back on his career with pride – particularly his Chelsea days.

The Brazilian signed for the club from Internacional in 2012 and spent four-and-a-half seasons at Stamford Bridge.

He formed a key part of Jose Mourinho‘s champions in 2014/15, playing as the No10 in behind Diego Costa.

Although he left half-way through the 2016/17 title-winning campaign under Antonio Conte, he received his winners’ medal as he made nine appearances between August and January – four more than the five required to earn a medal.

On top of that, he also won the Europa League and League Cup while playing in London.

Oscar spent seven years of his career in China at Shanghai Port, before re-signing for Sao Paulo last Christmas on a three-year deal which looks as though it will be cut short by two years.

He also earned 48 international caps between 2011 and 2015, which included winning the Confederations Cup in 2013 and playing in the World Cup that Brazil hosted a year later.

The past year of Oscar’s career has been stop-start due to injury.

That, combined with his recently diagnosed condition, probably means he will soon call time on his career.
