Eubank Jr. Rematch Could Make or Break Conor Benn’s Path to Welterweight Championship

Eubank Jr. Rematch Could Make or Break Conor Benn’s Path to Welterweight Championship

Conor Benn says he wants to fight for a welterweight title against one of the champions after he faces middleweight Chris Eubank Jr. in their rematch on November 15. Losing twice to Eubank Jr. will make Benn undeserving of a world title shot at 147.

Benn is looking past the Eubank Jr. fight, assuming he’s going to win. Unless he makes massive improvements from the first fight, he’s likely to lose again, but worse this time.

Benn Calls Out Shakur and Haney

Whatever argument that Benn has for deserving a world title shot at 147, it’ll have holes shot through it if he’s beaten again by Eubank Jr. How on earth would Conor deserve a title shot with him coming off consecutive losses to Eubank Jr?

Obviously, boxing is a business, but what message would that send to fans if Benn is given a world title shot at welterweight with a 0-2 record in his last two fights?

Benn (23-1, 14 KOs) states that he wants to “do a number” on these fighters:

  • Shakur Stevenson
  • Devin Haney
  • Brian Norman Jr.
  • Mario Barrios

Eubank Jr. vs. Benn 2 will headline on DAZN PPV on November 15, 2025, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in Tottenham, London, England.

“What is the WBC world title [Mario Barrios]? I’d like to fight all the Americans. They’re currently killing it. Devin Haney vs. Brian Norman, I’d love the winner,” said Conor Benn to Inside Ring about who he wants to fight after he faces middleweight Chris Eubank Jr. in their rematch on November 15, 2025.

Olly’s Viewpoint: Title Shot Eligibility

Conor Benn, 29, is ranked #4 WBC and #5 WBA at welterweight. The problem is, Conor hasn’t beaten anyone at the top level at 147. Losing to middleweight Eubank Jr. (35-3, 25 KOs) by a competitive 12-round unanimous decision earlier this year on April 26, 2025, still doesn’t show that Benn deserves to fight for a world title at 147.

Benn’s best wins at welterweight are against these fighters:

  1. Chris Van Heerden
  2. Adrian Granados
  3. Chris Algieri

“Shakur, if he wants to come up. Any of your top guys because you want to compare yourself to them,” said Conor about wanting to fight lightweight Shakur Stevenson.

To deserve a world title shot at 147, Benn should at least prove himself against these two fighters: Shakhram Giyasov and Karen Chukhadzhian.

“We put them on a pedestal over here. So, you really want to mix it with them and do a number on them,” said Benn.
