ESPN urges Dolphins to trade for million young CB as Jalen Ramsey replacement

The Miami Dolphins are coming off a season where they missed the playoffs, and it doesn’t seem likely that they’ll make the postseason this coming year. The team is actively looking to trade Jalen Ramsey and is also weighing its options with Tyreek Hill after an eventful offseason.

Ramsey has known for some time that the Dolphins were planning to trade him. Several teams have expressed interest in the veteran cornerback, but his contract is proving to be a significant hurdle. Many teams are reluctant to take on the full terms of his deal, which is preventing a trade from being completed.

“The Dolphins appear unwilling to take on any of Jalen Ramsey’s guaranteed money to facilitate a trade. Teams are very interested in trading for Ramsey, but don’t want to take on his full contract. This is the current hold-up,” reported Jeremy Fowler.

Recently, there has been growing buzz about when a trade might actually happen. Miami is just waiting for the right moment and currently has all the leverage in the situation. A deal could be made very soon.

“ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports ‘there’s more interest in Jalen Ramsey than people realize.’ A trade could be announced as soon as June, potentially. Schefter notes that if the trade happens before then, it wouldn’t be processed until after June 1 for cap reasons,” posted Barry Jackson.

The Dolphins could have an immediate replacement for Ramsey if they were to trade with the Los Angeles Chargers for Asante Samuel Jr.

“With Jalen Ramsey potentially being traded, Samuel could strengthen the Dolphins’ secondary. Miami is currently relying on Kader Kohou, Artie Burns, Storm Duck, Cam Smith, Ethan Bonner, and rookie Jason Marshall Jr. to fill out the rest of the cornerback room,” wrote Matt Bowen.

Samuel has had trouble staying on the field, but when healthy, he’s a playmaking corner. His contract is much cheaper than Ramsey’s, valued at just $7 million, making him a more cost-effective option. If the trade happens, it would significantly improve Miami’s secondary.
