England’s World Cup qualifying clash in Serbia labelled ‘high risk’ by police over fears of yob mayhem

ENGLAND’S World Cup qualifying clash in Serbia has been labelled “high risk” by police over fears of yob mayhem.

More than 2,500 fans are going to Belgrade for tomorrow’s game at the Rajko Mitic Stadium.

But there are fears of clashes with Serbian ultras following violence when the teams played in Germany at Euro 2024.

Supt Gareth Parkin, leading a UK team of cops there, said: “I know the local authorities are treating it as high risk.”

The ground will be only 85 per cent open due to sanctions for racist chanting from home fans at a previous match.

Fans have been told to stick to tourist areas.

Supt Parkin said: “The local authorities have reassured us that there’s a robust policing plan and operation in place to keep everybody visiting safe.

“They manage a very passionate local derby and nd a number of European fixtures.

“We will also do all we can to ensure 2,500 travelling England fans can be safe and enjoy the game.

“Our advice is to stick to the main tourist areas and be respectful of cultures and the different countries.

“We’re fully aware of the Ultras.

“The local authorities have assured they’re fully sighted on our concerns.”
