ENGLAND Under-21s star Jonathan Rowe has been asked to play for Jamaica.
Former England manager Steve McClaren, now in charge of the Reggae Boyz, has offered the Bologna forward the chance of senior international football.
Rowe, 22 scored the winner for a 3-2 extra-time victory over Germany in the final of the European Under-21 Championship in June.
Yet, the ex-Norwich winger is determined to try and work his way into Thomas Tuchel’s senior squad ahead of next year’s World Cup so has turned down the Jamaica offer.
This means another disappointment for Jamaica boss McClaren who has also been snubbed by Marseille’s Mason Greenwood.
Greenwood had initially asked to switch allegiances from England before changing his mind.
Rowe, who qualifies to play for Jamaica through his mother, played with Greenwood at Marseille last term.
But he was transfer listed after a bust-up with team-mate Adrien Rabiot last month.
Rowe’s first Serie A clash for Bologna is set to be on Sunday week away at AC Milan who, coincidentally, have just signed Rabiot so the pair could come face to face at the San Siro.
The forward’s young career kicked off in 2021 when he joined Norwich’s senior team.
That was after seven years climbing up the Canaries’ youth ranks.
After 13 goals and five assists in 56 appearances at Carrow Road, Rowe was loaned out to Marseille in 2024.
L’OM signed him on a permanent deal a year later and saw him amass three goals and four assists in 31 appearances with the French giants.
