The 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame class will be formally announced on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 9 p.m. ET. That evening, we will find out which legendary players will have their names etched in the NFL history books in Canton, Ohio.

One finalist for the class of 2025 is former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning. As a result, there’s been a fierce debate about his candidacy, including whether or not he even deserves to be in Canton at all. The big reason? Manning finished his 16-year NFL career with a 117-117 record as a starter.

But he does have two Super Bowl rings, which some say makes him worthy of the Hall of Fame. Let’s take a look back at Manning’s Super Bowl appearances, and some of the other more memorable points of his career with the Giants.

How many Super Bowl wins does Eli Manning have?

Manning has two Super Bowl wins.

The Giants won Super Bowl 42 over the Patriots during the 2007-08 season, and they also won Super Bowl 46 over the Patriots during the 2011-12 season with Manning under center. Manning brought the Giants two of their four Super Bowls in franchise history.

Eli Manning Super Bowl record

Manning has a 2-0 record in Super Bowl appearances. That’s better than his brother, Peyton, who went 2-2 in his four Super Bowl appearances.

Who did Eli Manning beat in the Super Bowl?

Manning defeated Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in both of his two Super Bowl victories, which could even further make the case for him to make the Hall of Fame.

In 2007, Manning and the Giants were the lone loss for an otherwise perfect season in New England. The Patriots entered the Super Bowl 18-0 and had a chance to match the perfect 1972 Miami Dolphins squad that finished 17-0 with a Super Bowl victory. However, the Giants ended those dreams with a come-from-behind 17-14 victory.

The Giants’ Super Bowl upset during the 2011-12 season was just as impressive. New York was considered a Super Bowl longshot that year, finishing 9-7 during the regular season and entering the playoff with the No. 6 seed in the NFC. The Giants rattled off playoff victories over the Falcons, Packers, and 49ers to make it to the Super Bowl before pulling off a 21-17 upset over New England in Indianapolis during Super Bowl 46.

Manning has said that losing twice to the Giants still gets to Brady.

“It’s one of those things, it’s not something I ever say or ever think a lot about,’’ Manning said via The New York Post in 2021. “I’ve been around Tom numerous times, and I’ve never brought up a Super Bowl or our games vs. them. He actually brings it up. It still bothers him a little bit, especially the ’07 one when they had the chance to go down as the greatest team of all-time.”

After Brady’s roast was released on Netflix last year, Manning poked fun at the quarterback’s 0-2 record against him:

2008: Giants 17, Patriots 14

This game wasn’t all that exciting through the first three quarters. New England led 7-3 at halftime, and the game was scoreless in the third quarter.

Things got entertaining in the fourth quarter. The Giants took its first lead of the game with 11:10 left, as Manning hit David Tyree for a five-yard touchdown pass.

Following back-to-back punts, Brady led what felt like a game-winning drive: a 12-play, 75-yard touchdown romp that bled 5:12 off the game clock. Brady found Randy Moss for a six-yard touchdown pass, and the Patriots took a 14-10 lead with 2:43 left.

On the Giants’ next drive, Manning had one of the most legendary moments of his career. With 1:15 left, Manning and the Giants were facing a 3rd-and-5. It appeared as though Manning was about to get sacked, but he riggled out of it and found Tyree, who completed the catch on his helmet:

The Helmet Catch

The pass put the Giants down to New England’s 24. Manning had another 3rd-down completion, finding Steve Smith on 3rd-and-11, that put the offense down to New England’s 13. Manning then lofted a pass to Plaxico Burress for a 13-yard touchdown to give New York a 17-14 lead with 35 seconds left.

On New England’s ensuing possession, the Giants held Brady to three incompletions and a sack, sealing the Super Bowl victory.

Manning finished the day going 19-of-34 for 255 yards with two touchdowns and a first-half interception. He was named the game’s MVP.

2012: Giants 21, New England 17

Unlike their first matchup, this one was much more entertaining in the first half. The Giants took a quick 9-0 lead following a safety and a touchdown drive in the first quarter. Manning found Victor Cruz for his first score of the night.

New England responded with a field goal and a touchdown in the second quarter, but the Giants led 10-9 at halftime. New England took a 17-9 lead in the first possession of the opening half, as the Giants could only respond with two field goals to cut New England’s lead to two entering the fourth quarter. The Giants’ offense also wasn’t able to capitalize off a Brady interception he threw with 14:31 left in the game.

But the Giants got the ball back from their own 12 with 3:46 left, and Manning had some late-game magic once again. On 1st-and-10, Manning threw a bomb to receiver Mario Manningham for a 38-yard completion. The catch, which put the Giants down to the 50, was challenged by Bill Belichick and the Patriots. It appeared as though Manningham might not have gotten both feet down, but the completion was upheld.

Manning continued to lead the offense downfield, connecting on four passes to get down to New England’s seven. On 2nd-and-goal, Ahmad Bradshaw scored a one-yard touchdown to give the Giants a 21-17 lead with 57 seconds left.

Although Brady was able to lead the Patriots down to the 49, his Hail Mary pass attempt to Aaron Hernandez fell incomplete.

In addition to his 117-117 regular season record, Manning has an 8-4 playoff record as a starter. He was named the Super Bowl MVP in both of his big-game victories, and he was also a four-time Pro Bowler (2008, 2011, 2012, and 2015). He was named the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2016.

On one hand, Manning’s record as a starter and lack of All-Pro selections indicate a good-but-not-great career — certainly not one that would be considered Hall of Fame worthy. On the other, you can certainly argue the clutch postseason play and two Super Bowl wins against Tom Brady and the Patriots dynasty are worthy of a bid. This year likely won’t be the end of the debate about Manning into the Hall of Fame, regardless of whether he makes it in.
