Promoter Eddie Hearn got all worked up today after Chris Eubank Jr. smacked Conor Benn in the face with an egg during their face-off at the Manchester Central to promote their April 6th fight. Hearn was like a dog off the leash, looking wild-eyed and snapping at Eubank Jr. and his promoter, Ben Shalom.
I don’t know what the big deal was. It was just a harmless raw egg that Eubank Jr. smacked Eubank Jr. with, sending yolk covering him and Hearn.
Eubank Jr’s Message Sent
Chris Eubank Jr’s egg smack was a letter of intent to Benn (23-0, 14 KOs) to tell him what he thinks of him for messing up their fight three years ago in 2022 by popping dirty. Hearn was yapping afterward about how they’re not going to have to put “provisions in place” for the next press conference because Benn will want to “attack him on site.” Who’s fault will that be? Hearn needs to control his fight if he doesn’t want any problems.
Eubank Jr. (34-3, 25 KOs) vs. Benn will take place on April 6th at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in Tottenham, London. The venue seats 62,850. Hearn said today that he regrets not staying the event in a 100,000-seat stadium because he predicts the tickets will sell out quickly for Tottenham.
“Eddie thought I knew about it. Also, he thought it was something else. You didn’t think it was an egg,” said promoter Ben Shalom to the media about the egg that Chris Eubank Jr. had smacked Conor Benn with today during their face-off at Manchester Central.
“I thought it was a glass. Whatever it was he hit Conor in the eye with something,” said Eddie Hearn. “What I was angry about is I don’t believe. Everything that Eubank does is premeditated.”
“I agree with that,” said Shalmon.
“He didn’t go into the kitchen this morning, get an egg out of the refrigerator, not tell anyone what he was going to do, and just turn up at the pressor,” said Hearn.
It sounds like Shalmon had no idea that Eubank Jr. was going to swat Benn with the egg today. So, what does Hearn want him to do? He’s not a fortune teller.
Hearn Triggered
“When that scumbag pressor happened, I said to him [Eubank Jr], ‘Tell me what are you going to say?’” said Shalom. “I wasn’t asking him what he was going to do. He wouldn’t tell me anything he was going to say. Did I expect that? No. Should he have done it? No, probably not.”
“What do you mean, ‘Probably not?” said Hearn.
“But I don’t think it was bad as we first saw it,’ said Shalmon.
“Oh yeah, it’s on sight now,” said Hearn when asked if he thinks Benn will retaliate now against Eubank Jr. “If anyone sees Nigel Benn tonight, avoid him. You’re [Shalom] done for. Don’t approach Nigel Benn tonight because this is what we’ve got to think about on Friday. We’ve got to put provisions in place because this is attack on sight stuff.”
