Promoter Eddie Hearn is confident that he can negotiate a unification fight between WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis and WBC champ Shakur Stevenson.

Hearn says that as long as “everyone is sensible,” he believes he can put the fight together. He feels that Tank Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) has no options for him to make the “big money.”

Matchroom Boxing promoter Hearn may have forgotten about Ryan Garcia being an option for Tank Davis to take in a rematch. That fight would bring in a lot more money than Shakur for the Baltimore native. Shakur, 27, isn’t popular with casual boxing fans or a PPV attraction. He has a fan base, but nowhere near that of Ryan. Even Devin Haney is more popular than Shakur.

Hearn has a two-fight deal with Shakur Stevenson, and it’s not looking good right now for the first fight. If he can’t get the Tank fight in the second fight of his deal with Shakur, it would be a good idea to give up on his hopeless dream of turning him into a “global star.” Hearn doesn’t understand that the U.S. market has changed its tastes. If you’re not an action fighter, you’re a nobody.

The Money Fight

“If everyone is sensible. What other fights are out there for Tank?” said Eddie Hearn to Boxing News when asked if he thinks he can deliver the Gervonta Davis fight to Shakur Stevenson next. “He’s [Tank] got a decent fight next, but he’s [Lamont Roach].

“Tank will want to be in big fights. He’ll want to make big money, and I think the biggest fight out there for him is Shakur Stevenson and vice versa,” said Hearn.

You hate to say it, but Hearn made a mistake in signing Shakur. He signed Shakur to a two-fight deal in 2024. His first fight of the deal was supposed to be against Joe Cordina on October 12th last year. Shakur suffered a hand injury training for that fight and had to pull out.

This Saturday will be Stevenson’s first fight with Matchroom. He was supposed to be fighting Floyd Schofield, but he pulled out with an illness. That wouldn’t be a big fight, but it was still tolerable.

Now, however, Shakur will be fighting a replacement opponent. These are the two options: Josh Padley and Moussa Gholam. Hearn isn’t going to get his money’s worth in Shakur’s first fight with Matchroom, and he may have the same problem if he can’t deliver Tank Davis.
