Eddie Hearn Claims Weight Trap Decided Conor Benn Win Over Chris Eubank Jr

Eddie Hearn has exposed Conor Benn as a manufactured creation. By taking credit for Benn beating Chris Eubank Jr., Hearn revealed that boardroom manipulation, not inside fighting, carried his former star to the bank.

Without Hearn draining Eubank down to skin and bones through strict weight clauses, Benn loses that rematch. There would be no massive Zuffa contract from Dana White, no fight with Ryan, and no pay-per-view profile. Hearn engineered the physical collapse of an opponent who resembled a wartime prisoner on the scale, then handed Benn the credit.

“Look, stranger things have happened. I will confirm I had a very pleasant lunch meeting with Mr. Eubank, and it was nice to kind of clear the air a little bit. Me and Chris Eubank against Conor Benn and Dana White makes the fight twice as big,” Hearn told Matchroom Boxing. “If I’m on Team Eubank, I’ll make sure it’s fair this time. My job last time was to get the edge, and I did that beautifully, because I spun the other team around my little finger and I enabled Conor Benn to get the advantage in the fight.”

Hearn went further with IFL TV, stating that he would never allow Eubank to fight at 160 pounds or accept another rehydration clause if he represented him. He then said the restriction “cost Chris Eubank the fight.”

That admission reduces Benn to a byproduct of Matchroom contract traps. Hearn sold Benn to the public as an elite warrior. The moment Benn signed with rival promoters, Hearn tore down the illusion and took the victory for himself.

Zuffa bought damaged goods at premium rates. White thought he signed an authentic middleweight menace, but Hearn just informed the entire sport that Benn cannot win on level terms.

Eubank looks just as foolish if he signs with Matchroom. Seeking protection from the very man who starved you out in negotiations is an embarrassing display of weakness.

The proposed trilogy leaves Benn cornered. If he demands the same stipulations, he confirms Hearn’s charge that he cannot win without them. If he accepts a contest at natural weight, he enters the ring stripped of the artificial advantages that made him a star.
