The Chicago Bears could certainly use some championship pedigree.
As they look to finally escape the cellar in the NFC North and make a playoff push, the Bears are doing everything they can to build a competent offense around second-year quarterback Caleb Williams.
The Bears invested heavily in the offensive line this offseason, and they should have two reliable receivers in D.J. Moore and Rome Odunze. That leaves running back and tight end as the main positions that could be addressed via trades or the NFL Draft.
It just so happens that the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles have a tight end who has become the subject of widespread trade speculation.
On Tuesday, CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin named the Bears as a potential trade suitor for Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert, who is entering the final season of a four-year, $57 million extension.
“Cole Kmet is fairly accomplished at tight end in the Windy City, but he’s also had bouts of inconsistency. Goedert could help offset the loss of Keenan Allen,” Benjamin wrote.

“And he’s got a probable backer in the front office, as assistant general manager Ian Cunningham worked for the Eagles when Goedert was drafted.”
Goedert, 30, has never been a superstar, but he’s been productive and reliable whenever he’s been healthy. He averages 43.9 receiving yards per game, with 394 career catches and 24 regular seasons touchdowns.
After winning his first championship in Philadelphia, Goedert could be in search of a new challenge as the Eagles look to get younger on offense. The Bears might be the right team to make use of his veteran leadership at a position they don’t have fully stocked.
