EA Sports will not release a new F1 game in 2026

EA Sports has announced it will not release a new Formula 1 game for the 2026 season.

Instead, the company will provide a “paid expansion to F1 25”, featuring 2026 cars, teams and regulations. Autosport has approached EA Sports as to whether the content will include the Madrid street track that will debut next year, called Madring.

Meanwhile, EA Sports will focus on revamping its game for 2027, aiming at a new version that “looks, feels, and plays differently, delivering more gameplay choices”.

“F1 25 has been an incredible success, fuelled by the passion of fans and the energy of the sport,” said Lee Mather, senior creative director at Codemasters. “With Formula 1’s momentum on and off the track, now is the perfect time for us to look ahead and build for the future.

“We’re fully committed to the EA Sports F1 franchise. Our multi-year plan extends this year’s excitement with the 2026 expansion and reimagines the F1 experience for 2027 to deliver even more for players at every level around the world.”

EA Sports’ decision coincides with F1’s new technical era in 2026, as cars will feature new power units with a greater emphasis on electric energy, while active aerodynamics will be at play on the chassis side.

This will presumably allow EA Sports to get a hang of the new machinery’s behaviour instead of hurrying it through and potentially inaccurately replicating it; it will also give developers more time to overhaul the game itself.
