Dolphins trade proposal sends million, 7-time Pro Bowler to Bengals to boost struggling defense

Jalen Ramsey is simply waiting to see which offer the Miami Dolphins will accept, as he prepares to join a new team. A decision is expected soon with June approaching—a key point when trades become more favorable from a salary cap perspective. Although the offseason began with Miami giving Ramsey permission to seek a trade, no deal has materialized yet.

“ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports ‘there’s more interest in Jalen Ramsey than people realize.’ Trade could be announced in June, potentially. Schefter notes if trade happens before, it wouldn’t be processed until after June 1 for cap reasons,” Barry Jackson posted.

Ramsey’s name has been circulating for months now, ever since it was announced that he was looking to move on from Miami. When healthy, the seven-time Pro Bowler brings an immediate impact to any defense. Those accolades aren’t handed out easily—Ramsey has earned every one of them.

However, one of the key obstacles in finalizing a trade is Miami’s unwillingness to take on any of Ramsey’s guaranteed money.

“The Dolphins appear unwilling to take on any of Jalen Ramsey’s guaranteed money to facilitate a trade. Teams are very interested in trading for Ramsey, but don’t want to take on his full contract. This is the current hold up,” Jeremy Fowler reported.

One possible landing spot for Ramsey is Cincinnati. The Bengals could use a veteran presence in the secondary as they push to contend in the AFC North. With little investment made in the cornerback position during the draft or free agency, the Bengals remain vulnerable against the pass.

“Why wouldn’t new defensive coordinator Al Golden want a proven piece like Ramsey? He would welcome the addition with open arms. The Bengals have not signed or drafted a cornerback this offseason despite having one of the NFL’s weakest units against the pass,” Brad Crawford wrote.

Ramsey would be a huge addition for Cincinnati. Defense was a major issue for the Bengals last season, and adding a playmaker like Ramsey could be critical. With Joe Burrow already leading the offense, Cincinnati may only be one reliable defensive star away from a serious title run.
