The Miami Dolphins are still searching for a suitable trade partner for cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
Though the Dolphins are in a bit of a limbo state coming off a season in which they missed the playoffs, they still have a decently competitive roster.
With that said, it makes sense that the front office may try to get out of Ramsey’s contract before the 2025 season arrives.
In a trade proposal pitched by RB Hayek of Clutch Points, the Dolphins landed a haul for Ramsey by sending him to his former team in the Los Angeles Rams.
Rams receive: CB Jalen Ramsey
Dolphins receive: CB Cobie Durant, a 2026 third-round draft pick, and a 2026 fourth-round draft pick
“Cobie Durant has all the talent in the world to make a splash. However, he has not had that much of an opportunity behind Ahkello Witherspoon and Darious Williams. Both cornerbacks are 30 years or older, indicating that McVay probably prefers veterans over younger players in the secondary,” Hayek wrote. “The Rams would likely need to send a third and a fourth-round pick to sweeten the deal. Yes, Ramsey is not the player he once was. But he also holds name value in the NFL and can definitely make a difference.”
The three-time All-Pro selection, has three years remaining on a $72 million contract, per Spotrac. He carries salary-cap hits of $25 million, $26.8 million and $36.2 million over the next three seasons, respectively. Those are some big cap hits for a cornerback already over the age-30 cliff.
With that said, Ramsey has allowed a 71.8 passer rating and 6.6 yards per target during his two seasons with Miami, both of which are career-best marks.
Miami has some big question marks in the secondary even with Ramsey in the mix. However, given the perception of a team that may struggle to keep pace in the AFC, it wouldn’t be the worst idea to see what they can get in a deal for Ramsey.
