Dolphins QB Zach Wilson takes subtle shot at Jets after joining division rival

Zach Wilson seems happier with a new AFC East team.

The Miami Dolphins’ backup quarterback couldn’t live up to the hype in his time with the New York Jets. And in speaking to reporters recently, he acknowledged that it was hard for him.

In praising the setup with the Dolphins, Wilson also subtly shared that things weren’t quite so good in his first NFL stop.

“That’s what I’ve tried to do since I went through the entire New York experience, is trying to be more myself and focus on more just enjoying the game, enjoying learning, enjoying the failures, the process, everything that comes with it, not getting too hard on yourself when you make a mistake, just trying to learn and do my best and get better,” Wilson said. “And I think having that focus and that mindset is what’s going to get you to where you want to be, not dwelling over a mistake. Everyone’s just out here trying to help each other get better, especially the coaches. They’re trying to help me be the best player I can be.”

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel recognized this, too.

The head man recently said Wilson is “a guy that has been through some s— and found his way through it.”

Wilson was the No. 2 overall pick in 2021 out of BYU.

He has immense arm talent but never put it together in three seasons with the Jets, throwing 23 touchdowns compared to 25 interceptions.

Wilson spent 2024 on the Denver Broncos roster but didn’t get into a game.

Now, he’s in a key role as the backup to oft-injured Tua Tagovailoa in Miami.

If things break a certain way, Wilson could even get a chance to play against his former team. That’d be quite the opportunity for him to prove how he’s grown.
