Dolphins predicted to trade with NFC team, address big needs in NFL Draft

Even though the Miami Dolphins are among the leaders in the number of selections in the 2025 NFL Draft, there’s always a chance to add more to the pile.

Currently holding the No. 13 overall pick, there’s certainly an avenue in which general manager Chris Grier sits tight and takes the best prospect available on the board. Passing up a chance to take Malaki Starks, Will Johnson or one of the top offensive line prospects might be too much to pass up.

However, the latest NFL draft predictions from Chad Reuter of NFL.com have Miami moving back a few spots in a deal with the Arizona Cardinals, picking up an extra third-round pick (No. 78) in exchange for a late fourth-round pick (No. 135).

Dolphins NFL draft predictions

After moving back three spots from No. 13 to No. 16 in the deal, the Dolphins still had the opportunity to grab an All-American prospect in cornerback Jahdae Barron out of Texas.

“In this four-round mock, Barron joins second-round pick Xavier Watts (SPOILER ALERT!) to rebuild a Miami secondary in flux. Remember: The Eagles picked two defensive backs in the first two round last year — scooping up Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean — and the strategy helped them win the Super Bowl. Barron proved his long speed with a 4.39 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine, so he could man the perimeter CB spot opposite Jalen Ramsey. That said, his inside/outside versatility is a major strength,” Reuter wrote.

In Round 2, the Dolphins grabbed Notre Dame safety Xavier Watts, bringing a versatile playmaker to the secondary following the departure of star Jevon Holland, who landed a three-year deal with the New York Giants.

In Round 3, some depth was added to the offensive side of the ball. The Dolphins used the No. 78 pick they got in the projected trade to take tight end Elijah Arroyo out of Miami. A Senior Bowl standout, Arroyo broke out with 35 receptions for 590 yards and seven touchdowns during his redshirt junior season. With their second third-round pick at No. 98, a compensatory selection, Miami added some much-needed depth to the defensive line by grabbing Kentucky defensive tackle Deone Walker.

Finally, the Dolphins used their only pick in the fourth round to add another southpaw to the quarterback room. Even after signing Zach Wilson to a one-year deal as Tua Tagovailoa’s backup, Miami used the No. 116 pick on Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel — the all-time NCAA leader in passing touchdowns.

Here’s how Reuter’s latest mock breaks down:

Pick Player School
Round 1, No. 16 (via AZ) CB Jahdae Barron Texas
Round 2, No. 48 S Xavier Watts Notre Dame
Round 3, No. 78 (via AZ) TE Elijah Arroyo Miami
Round 3, No. 98 DT Deone Walker Kentucky
Round 4, No. 116 QB Dillon Gabriel Oregon
