It has been a tumultuous 2025 for the Miami Dolphins and wide receiver Tyreek Hill, which has led to no shortage of trade speculation.
After the Dolphins missed the playoffs last season, Hill stated he wanted out of Miami following the Week 18 contest. Hill then pulled back on that, only to send some mixed signals on social media about his future with the team.
General manager Chris Grier named an outrageous asking price of two first-round picks for Hill , but that was more of a sign that the Dolphins won’t trade him rather than a sign that they will.
“That is not anything that we’re pursuing. Who knows? If someone wants to come and give me two first-round picks, we’ll consider it,” he said, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
However, never say never in the NFL. With Hill being someone who could demand a trade if things go south this coming season, the Dolphins might want to get out in front of that.
One team that would have some interest in Hill if he hits the trade block is the Los Angeles Chargers, a team that needs to surround Justin Herbert with more weapons if it hopes to take yet another step forward in 2025.

That’s why Pro Football Focus’ Thomas Valentine predicted a trade between the Chargers and Dolphins that sends Hill to L.A. Check out Valentine’s proposed trade, as well as his thoughts on it.
- Chargers Receive: Pick No. 256 and WR Tyreek Hill
- Dolphins Receive: Pick Nos. 86 and 181, 2026 sixth-rounder
“The Chargers haven’t solved their issues at receiver, and bringing back Mike Williams into the fold doesn’t do much more than appeal to the sentimentalists,” Valentine wrote. “They’ll be in range to target a receiver with their first-round pick, but if Tyreek Hill is available in a trade, the Chargers should be first in line to make the call. Hill earned his lowest PFF overall grade in the NFL in 2024 but earned a grade higher than 84.0 in each of the previous six seasons. He would give the Chargers a speed dimension that no other team in the NFL has. His ability to make plays with the ball in his hands is the best in the league, and he would likely become Justin Herbert’s favorite target.”
The Chargers have a fantastic slot receiver in Ladd McConkey, but the receivers group is filled out by an over-the-hill Mike Williams and an unreliable Quentin Johnston.
It’s true the Chargers could address their need in the 2025 NFL draft, but there’s no guarantee that player will pan out, which is not an ideal situation for a win-now team like L.A.
Hill would make the immediate impact the Chargers need as a proven wide receiver who can completely change the face of an offense. Hill is coming off a down year, but he also didn’t have Tua Tagovailoa for six games and was playing through a wrist injury.
Getting a third-round pick and then some for Hill would be a solid return when you consider the price veteran wide receivers have gone for in trades in recent years, but it’s possible the Dolphins will be eyeing someone like Johnston in return to help fill the void left by Hill. Including Johnston in a package for the eight-time Pro Bowler would lower the burden on the draft capital the Chargers have to send Miami but would also leave Los Angeles with a depth issue at wide receiver.
Even still, that’s something the Chargers can figure out in free agency and/or the draft. The most important thing is adding a game-changer like Hill, which is far more difficult to do.
