That big, dark cloud hanging over the Miami Dolphins franchise right now isn’t the type of cumulonimbus cloud that is often seen over South Florida. It is the desire that star wide receiver Tyreek Hill has expressed in being traded.
After the Dolphins completed a disappointing 2024 season, during which they went 8-9 and didn’t qualify for the playoffs, Hill strongly implied he wanted to be traded. He has since walked back that statement a bit, but he has also dropped hints on social media more recently that he still wants to leave.
Head coach Mike McDaniel, however, made a comment that makes it sound as if the team is planning on having Hill for the 2025 season.
“I can certainly say with certainty that at this certain moment,” McDaniel said, via the Miami Herald, when asked if Hill will be on the team, later adding “We are fully planning to move forward for a better version of our relationship with Tyreek.”
Hill had an uncharacteristically mediocre year (by his standards) in 2024. He caught 81 passes and put up 959 receiving yards and six touchdowns, which was his lowest output in all three categories since 2019, when he played in just 12 games.
Perhaps some of his depressed production had to do with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missing games due to a concussion. But there also seems to be a feeling among some fans that perhaps Hill isn’t worth trading for due to his age (31) and his diva tendencies.
