Dolphins-Eagles blockbuster trade sends million veteran to Philadelphia in ‘no-brainer’ deal

The Miami Dolphins are still exploring ways to create cap space, and it seems the most effective route is to move on from veteran players with large contracts. That could be achieved if they can find trade partners willing to absorb those deals.

One player the Dolphins appear ready to part ways with is veteran cornerback Jalen Ramsey. A major factor in his expected departure appears to be related to internal dynamics.

“I talked with their defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver about the situation and his quote kind of [explains] why the Dolphins and Ramsey are here. He said Ramsey has been a great player for us, but relationships are hard and he has chosen to move on,” Cameron Wolfe said.

A trade seems imminent, especially with June approaching—a key date when trades become more financially manageable for teams due to cap regulations.

“ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports ‘there’s more interest in Jalen Ramsey than people realize.’ Trade could be announced in June, potentially. Schefter notes if trade happens before, it wouldn’t be processed until after June 1 for cap reasons,” Barry Jackson posted.

The Dolphins are doing everything they can to avoid paying a significant portion of Ramsey’s contract in any trade, which is part of the reason for the delay. One team being floated as a potential landing spot is the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

“Adding a seven-time Pro Bowler to a locker room coming off a Super Bowl title is a no-brainer for Howie Roseman if the details work out. With former 2024 first-round pick Quinyon Mitchell and 2023 fourth-rounder Kelee Ringo expected to start, Ramsey could take Ringo’s spot and bolster a budding unit,” Brad Crawford wrote.

Such a move would be massive for the Eagles and could solidify their status as Super Bowl favorites this upcoming season. Ramsey, for his part, reportedly wants to join a team positioned to win now.
