Dolphins deal million veteran to Cowboys in blockbuster swap for ‘sexy’ defensive name

The Miami Dolphins are looking to make several key moves over the next couple of seasons, especially given their very limited cap space. With little financial flexibility, the team will likely need to part ways with some of its larger contracts to make anything happen. One potential trade candidate is veteran pass rusher Bradley Chubb.

“The Dolphins currently have $4.8 million in cap room next year. That will most assuredly change for a lot of reasons, but it is an indication of what 2026 could potentially be like. Chubb will count $31 million against the cap. The only way Miami recovers any of that is to either trade him this year or cut him after June 1, 2026, where they will eat $10 million but save $20 million,” Brian Miller wrote.

While that scenario is certainly in play, much of the attention is focused on Jalen Ramsey and his future with the team. However, Miami seems unwilling to absorb any of his contract to facilitate a deal.

“The Dolphins appear unwilling to take on any of Jalen Ramsey’s guaranteed money to facilitate a trade. Teams are very interested in trading for Ramsey, but don’t want to take on his full contract. This is the current hold up,” Jeremy Fowler reported.

With Ramsey involved in trade speculation, there’s a possibility he could land in Dallas in a high-profile cornerback swap.

“The Cowboys do have a sexy name to potentially dangle if they’re not willing to pay DaRon Bland a long-term contract. He’s in the final year of his contract after posting a whopping 14 interceptions in his first two years in the NFL,” Kyle Crabbs wrote.

A trade to Dallas would give Ramsey a fresh start and could pair him with Trevon Diggs. Diggs, who tore his ACL last season, is expected to return, and the two could potentially form one of the most formidable cornerback duos in the league. For Ramsey, Dallas might even become a long-term home.
