For the first time during Mike McDaniel’s tenure, the Miami Dolphins are coming off a season in which they failed to make the playoffs.
Even with Tua Tagovailoa entrenched as the starter on a $212 million deal, the Dolphins may need to begin thinking about the future. Sometimes, that includes parting ways with superstars while they still have enough trade value to make a deal worth it. The biggest name on that list for Miami is star wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
In looking at potential trades that could take place in the NFL this offseason, Mason Cameron of Pro Football Focus believes the Dolphins may have a suitor in the Los Angeles Chargers.
“Despite finishing with the lowest PFF receiving grade (77.3) of his career in 2024, Hill is still one of the NFL’s most dynamic weapons. Across the last three seasons, Hill has ranked in the 92nd percentile in receiving grade and the 99th percentile in yards per route run,” Cameron wrote. “Paired with Ladd McConkey, this Chargers receiving corps could become a terrifying group with Herbert slinging the rock.”
Though it’s still likely that Hill remains with the Dolphins, it wouldn’t be unheard of to see Miami part ways with the 31-year-old given his contract status. The Dolphins should still be able to fetch a strong haul for Hill, especially if he’s dealt to a contending team like the Chargers.
The issue primarily surrounds his contract, which carries a $51.9 million salary-cap hit for the 2026 season, per Spotrac. That could severely hinder Miami’s chances to make moves next offseason.
Hill is still a productive receiver even coming off a down campaign in 2024. Adding him to the Chargers offense would finally give Herbert the deep threat he’s needed, and it could help the Dolphins facilitate more flexibility to make moves for the future.
