Dolphins million superstar viewed as Miami’s best trade chip

In what has been a quiet offseason for the Miami Dolphins, it only takes one blockbuster move to change the narrative.

After missing out on the playoffs for the first time in Mike McDaniel’s tenure as head coach, the Dolphins find themselves in limbo. They have some elite pieces on offense like Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and De’Von Achane, but the defense has some major question marks, especially following the departure of star safety Jevon Holland.

When looking at each team’s best trade chip ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus landed on the aforementioned Hill for Miami.

“The first element to address with the Dolphins is that the team doesn’t have many outstanding and realistic trade assets. And while Hill doesn’t appear outwardly likely to leave Miami, there could be some motivation to trade him,” Locker wrote. “Last year proved a tougher campaign for the star wideout, as his 77.3 PFF receiving grade and 1.75 yards per route run were the worst marks of his storied career. On top of that, Hill is under contract for only two more full years and is 31. The Dolphins probably won’t trade him, but among the team’s possible options, he would be the most intriguing.”

It was certainly a rough season for the perennial All-Pro talent. Hill played through a nagging wrist injury while quarterback Tua Tagovailoa failed to play a full season for the fourth time in his five-year career. Hill posted 81 receptions for 959 yards and six touchdowns. It was the first time since his rookie campaign that he failed to reach 1,000 receiving yards while playing at least 15 games.

The Dolphins should still be able to fetch a strong haul for Hill, especially if he’s dealt to a contending team. On top of that, his salary-cap hit for the 2026 season currently stands at $51.9 million, per Spotrac. That could severely hinder Miami’s chances to make moves next offseason.

It’s unlikely Hill will get dealt this offseason but with his future in question, nothing can be dismissed out of hand.
