Dion Dublin hailed for emotional ITV interview at England vs Andorra days after his dad passed away

DION DUBLIN has been hailed by England fans for his emotional interview on ITV.

The former footballer was at Villa Park for the Three Lions World Cup qualifier against Andorra.

Dublin, 56, was also one of 12 former Aston Villa players to receive their Legacy Caps before the game.

It came just days after he announced the tragic passing of his father Eddie.

After receiving his cap, he made the effort to appear on ITV to give a quick interview.

He joined the panel of host Mark Pougatch and pundits Roy Keane and Ian Wright.

Dublin was embraced by the trio as he shared a hug with each of them.

He took the chance to pay tribute to his dad and admitted it had been a “tough week”.

He said: “He would have been [proud], he would have driven me here like he had for most of my trials.

“Lost him on Monday and it has been a tough week.

“Dad this is for you.”

One fan posted: “Bless Dion Dublin. Just lost his Dad and still spoke on TV before the England match. Such a nice bloke.”

BBC FA Cup coverage interrupted by angry fan calling Dion Dublin a ‘w—-r’ as pundit says ‘I’ll take him outside’

A second wrote: “I’ve always liked and admired Dion Dublin. Got a lot of time for him. Bet his Dad was proud of him, too.”

A third commented: “Just watched Dion Dublin on the England game….He’s just such a lovely man.”

A fourth said: “Dion Dublin. One of the good ones.”

Another added: “Absolutely love Dion Dublin man what a guy.”

Dublin started his career at Cambridge United before moving to Manchester United in 1992.

He left Old Trafford in 1994 for a four-year stint at Coventry City.

He then moved to Aston Villa in 1998 and stayed in the West Midlands until 2004.

During his career, Dublin also managed to earn four caps for England but never scored an international goal.
