Diogo Jota’s heartbroken wife and parents attend Wolves vs Man City match as touching tribute paid to tragic footballer

DIOGO Jota’s wife and parents attended the Wolves vs City match, watching on as fans paid a touching tribute to the ex-Wanderers player.

The fixture kicked off earlier this evening with Diogo’s wife and parents spotted in the stands.

Wolves fans paid a heart warming tribute to the late Portuguese attacker before the game got underway at Molineux.

In their first Premier League match since the tragedy, fans observed a minutes silence for the Liverpool player who was with the Wolves for five years before moving to join the reds.

Jota’s family watched on, looking emotional as Wolves fans in the South Bank unfurled a massive banner showing Jota in the gold of his old club.

The move was met with thunderous applause in the stands as Jota’s family watched on looking moved.

A large banner held up by the fans read “We will remember you walk in fields of gold” in reference to Jota’s favourite song, Fields of Gold by Sting.

Fans seated across the stadium held up banners and signs honouring the late baller who was killed along with his brother in a crash in northern Spain on 3 July.

Jota was also featured on the front of the match programme dressed in the gold of the Wanderers.

The Liverpool player’s parents, wife Rute Cardoso, former Wolves player Ruben Neves and his international manager Roberto Martinez were all in attendance.

Following the banner display there was applause from fans and cheering of Jota’s name before kick-off.

It comes after similar tributes were made to Jota at Anfield before and after Liverpool’s 4-2 victory over Bournemouth.

Jota moved to Wolves from Atletico Madrid in July 2017 before going on to join Liverpool in 2020.

The late player was inducted into the Wolverhampton Wanderers Hall of Fame last month.

The club have released a commemorative 100-page programme for the match, dedicated to Jota and his brother.

It featured some never-before-seen behind-the-scenes media with the icon, as well as including tributes from the players and staff who were closest to him.

A supporters group, the Old Gold Pack, recently kicked of a fundraiser for the Portuguese player.

Banners were designed by the group and placed on seats in the stands for supporters to use during this evenings tribute.

Watching the tribute from the stands Jota’s family and friends looked visibly emotional.

Jose Sa looked to be fighting tears as both sides lined up for a minute’s applause.

Jota helped the Wolves win the Championship title before spending another two full seasons with them.

Some of the floral tributes to the late player are set to be displayed at the Wolves Museum in a permanent tribute.
