The Phoenix Suns are locking Dillon Brooks down.
Brooks, fresh off a career campaign with the franchise, agreed to a three-year, $73 million extension on Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Brooks had signed a four-year, $86 million deal with the Memphis Grizzlies. He was set to enter the final year of that contract this fall, and would have hit free agency next summer. Now, though, he’ll be a key piece for the Suns for years to come.
Brooks, who was dealt to the Suns as part of the blockbuster trade that sent Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets last summer, averaged a career-high 20.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game in Phoenix. He shot better than 43% from the field, too, which is better than all but his rookie campaign. Brooks missed a good chunk of the season after fracturing his left hand in February, however, and only appeared in 56 games.
The Suns went 45-37 last season and reached the playoffs, but ended up getting swept in the opening round by the Oklahoma City Thunder.
