Did Peyton Manning adopt a daughter? Fact-checking viral fake story about NFL legend’s kids

The internet can be a great place. It contains all the knowledge you could ask for, and is a great place for funny memes to send to friends and coworkers.

Since people can find a way to put whatever they want online, it also leads to a wealth of misinformation. Facebook used to be a place to connect with friends and send flirty pokes at crushes. Now, it is mainly used for its marketplace, but it is also a breeding ground for misinformation that goes viral. Even in the comments, people will claim it’s a fake story, while others vehemently defend it as real, with no credible source of information beyond the post.

The latest victim of one of these viral misinformation posts was NFL Hall of Famer Peyton Manning. Luckily, his story was a positive one, and not any sort of scandal. A post on Facebook claimed that he and his family had secretly adopted a daughter named Lily. The post also claims that, although she had been kept secret, “Lily” is now 18 and “ready to step into the world,” whatever that means.

Here is what we know about the claim that Manning has adopted a daughter.

Did Peyton Manning adopt a little girl named Lily?

A post on Facebook claims that Manning adopted a third child — “The Daughter No One Knew About” — but it is not true. Here is the post in full:

Ten years ago, a devastating natural disaster left a young girl orphaned, her family taken by the tragedy. She had no home, no relatives to turn to, and her future seemed uncertain. That’s when Peyton and Ashley Manning stepped in.”

Without seeking recognition or publicity, they made a life-changing decision—they adopted her as their own.

Raising her away from the media spotlight, they provided her with love, stability, and every opportunity to thrive. Now, at 18, she is ready to step into the world with the same strength and kindness instilled in her by the Mannings.

Though the world never knew, those closest to the family have seen firsthand the incredible bond they share. Peyton Manning is known for his leadership on the field—but this might be his greatest victory yet.

This story has gone viral on TikTok and Facebook since it was originally posted March 19, 2025, despite no evidence the Mannings adopted a daughter. Peyton and his wife Ashley have two kids together.

The couple founded the PeyBack Foundation in 1999, which helps provide at-risk children with “leadership and growth opportunities.” They are also both heavily involved with projects at the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent.
