Did George Pickens actually tweet that he forced trade from Steelers?

Did George Pickens actually tweet that he forced trade from Steelers?

The Pittsburgh Steelers have had one of the most interesting offseasons of any team that didn’t make a change at head coach or general manager.

Following a 10-7 regular season and a first-round exit at the hands of the AFC North-champion Baltimore Ravens in 2024, the Steelers made massive changes to their roster. That included watching their top-three quarterbacks on the roster (Russell Wilson, Justin Fields and Kyle Allen) sign with new teams and trading for a legitimate star wide receiver (DK Metcalf).

Last month, Pittsburgh continued their wild ride, sending George Pickens (and a 2027 sixth-round pick) to the Dallas Cowboys in a trade for a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick.

Pickens’ time with the Steelers was up-and-down, as he caught 174 passes for 2,841 yards and 12 touchdowns in 48 games over three years, but his attitude was a known problem.

In fact, at the time of the trade, it was believed that head coach Mike Tomlin was actually the one responsible for the trade, which would say a lot considering the players he’s been able to work with in the past (i.e., Antonio Brown, Le’Veon Bell, etc.).

While there hadn’t been much fallout from the trade in the form of big reactions from the player, the team or his former teammates, social media was set ablaze when a post from an account claiming to be Pickens’ insinuated that he forced his way out of Pittsburgh.

However, the story was quickly debunked when Steelers writer Alex Kozora posted that the account had deleted tweets, went private and changed their profile picture to one of country singer Braxton Keith.

Pickens is a bold personality and certainly has a flair for the dramatic, but he didn’t go on social media bad-mouthing his former team in a random post on a Sunday. Although there’s always a chance that it happens at some point.

In today’s internet age, it’s essential to be vigilant about information, especially when it’s so easy to alter your profiles to deceive others.
