Devin Haney’s “Secured” Big Money Rematch Against Ryan Garcia After Ramirez Victory, According to Richardson Hitchins

Devin Haney’s “Secured” Big Money Rematch Against Ryan Garcia After Ramirez Victory, According to Richardson Hitchins

Richardson Hitchins says Devin Haney “secured” his big money rematch against Ryan Garcia with his victory over veteran Jose Ramirez in their fight on May 2nd at Times Square in New York. Hitchins fights a lot like Haney, so it’s not surprising that he’s not roasting him about his overly cautious, non-engaging performance against his tune-up opponent, Ramirez.

Turki Alalshikh will decide whether to go through with the Garcia-Haney 2 rematch. He can’t be feeling too positive about putting this fight together with Haney’s diminished look and his running around the ring with a look of terror in his eyes. On top of that, Ryan’s loss to Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero in the main event makes it impossible to sell the rematch with Haney now. The only way Turki could put the rematch on now is if he buries it on an undercard.

“Devin at His Finest?”

“He secured his big payday against Ryan Garcia in this big fight,” said Richardson Hitchins to YSM Sports Media about Devin Haney’s victory over Jose Ramirez earlier this month on May 2nd. “No, he looked like Devin Haney at his finest,” said Hitchins when asked if Haney looked “A little off’ in his performance against Ramirez compared to how he’s looked in the past.

Hitchins isn’t seeing things from the fans’ perspective, but it’s not surprising. He’s got that Haney style, too. So, he won’t trash him because he would be criticizing himself in doing so.

“When I say, ‘Devin at his finest,’ I mean, I don’t think it gets any better than that. He boxed, smart legs, speed, hitting, and don’t get hit. Different styles. The way he boxed and moved around on that guy [Ramirez], he can’t do against Ryan. Taller is faster, with better reflexes. It’s way different styles. He can’t box and move against Ryan,” said Hitchins.

It would be a good idea for Turki Alalshikh to forget completely about putting the rematch between Haney and Garcia together after their dreadful performances on the Times Square card. They were both exposed in their respective fights as not high-level fighters worth using on future cards.

Sink-or-Swim Fights

If Turki did want to use them again for his events, he should make them earn the rematch by matching them against these fighters in sink-or-swim fights:

– Gary Antuanne Russell
– Keyshawn Davis
– Shakhram Giyasov

Fans on social media note that Haney (32-0, 15 KOs) looked like a shell-shocked fighter, afraid to get hit. He didn’t perform well enough against the past-his-prime Ramirez to sell a rematch with Ryan Garcia for October.  Devin, 26, is supposed to be in his prime, but he performed like he was still mentally shaken from his previous clash against Kingry.
