Turki Alalshikh revealed moments ago that Devin Haney will challenge WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. for his title in November in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. #1 WBC and #2 WBA ranked Haney (32-0, 15 KOs) will be fighting for the first time at the full 147-lb weight in the welterweight division against the unbeaten Norman Jr. (28-0, 22 KOs).
Haney vs. Norman Jr. Confirmed
The former two-division world champion Haney will seek to become a three-division world champion by beating the 24-year-old Norman Jr. However, the likelihood of Devin accomplishing that is slim, as Brian Jr. is the equivalent of 100% kryptonite in its purest form, given the power he possesses in both hands. He will knock chips off Haney with his shots.
Unless Haney’s punch resistance has improved since his loss to Ryan Garcia in 2024, he’s not going to last long against Norman Jr. The champion’s power appears to be greater than Kingry’s with both hands, and he doesn’t take breaks the way Ryan did in his victory over Haney.
Norman Jr. continues to apply nonstop pressure and punches through his opponents. What he did to contender Jin Sasaki on June 19th in Tokyo was scary. Norman Jr. knocked him out cold with a left hand in round five, resulting in the Japanese fighter being stretchered out of the ring.
Turki must be paying Haney a gold mine to get him and his dad, Bill Haney, to have signed off to face Norman Jr. This is not a walk-in-the-park type of fight like Devin’s last one against veteran Jose Ramirez last May at Times Square in New York. Norman Jr. is young, nearing his prime, and arguably the biggest puncher in the welterweight division. Many fans now consider him the #1 fighter at 147.
