What’s worse than passengers clapping when a plane ends?
Apparently when a flight attendant interrupts the ending of “Sunday Night Football” — at least that was the case in Detroit last night.
A plane full of Lions fans was descending into Detroit Metro Airport on Sunday during the conclusion of the game between the Lions and the Texans. As the flight was in the final leg of its trip, an attendant onboard attempted to offer the cheery message of thanking those on the plane for flying with the unidentified airline.
However, her timing could not have been worse. She clicked on the intercom right as Lions kicker Jake Bates was lining up his 52-yard field goal try with four seconds left in the tied game. The flight attendant barely got through “Thank you” before she was met with multiple groans and people shouting “No!” throughout the cabin.

The attendant got the message loud and clear. She went silent for a couple of seconds before she muttered, “My apologies.” Silence took over the plane as those thousands of feet up in the air waited anxiously for the result of the kick.
As Bates booted the ball up in the air, there were mixed reactions out of the group. A loud “Yes!” is heard before a “No, no, no” belts out as the kick trailed towards the goal post.
However, luckily for those Lions fans on board, the kick slid just enough to the right for a successful attempt, giving Detroit an improbable win over Houston. Those on the plane cheered as the team completed the 19-point comeback victory over the Texans.
The flight attendant went right back to business, as she was able to get her final announcement. However, based on the video, it looks like the passengers onboard were more keen on high-fiving each other in celebration rather than listening to the final goodbye from the crew.
