Denver Broncos undrafted rookie spotlight: OL Xavier Truss

Denver Broncos undrafted rookie spotlight: OL Xavier Truss

Entering the 2025 NFL Draft, it was thought that the Denver Broncos could add some beef to an already good offensive line but the team was quite clearly confident in what it already had in place as it did not spend a single pick on an offensive lineman.

However, following the draft, the team signed four offensive linemen as undrafted free agents, and the name that stands out on that list is that of former Georgia offensive tackle Xavier Truss.

Name: Xavier Truss
Height: 6-foot-7
Weight: 309
School: Georgia
Position: Offensive Tackle

Truss was born in Rhode Island and after a decorated high school playing career, he went to one of the best programs in the country at Georgia. There, he played at both tackle and guard and saw action in a total of 66 games for the Bulldogs. He helped the team win back-to-back national championships and was a starter when the team beat TCU 65-7 in January 2023 to win the title.

Though Truss was projected as a late-round pick, it was a bit of a surprise to see him go undrafted. Lance Zierlein of NFL.com had a sixth-round grade on him but notes that he’ll need to play guard at the professional level.

Chances of making final 53-man roster (1-10 scale): 5

Truss may be best suited to play guard when all is said and done but the Broncos will likely at least try him at tackle to begin with. The best offensive lines always had a quality swing tackle on the roster and while the Broncos have both Matt Peart and Alex Palczewski who can spell either Garett Bolles or Mike McGlinchey, Truss could be thrown into that mix this summer as well.

It should be noted that the Broncos gave Truss a total of $170,000 in guaranteed money upon signing him, a high number for an undrafted player and a sign that the Broncos see something in him. That bodes well for his chances to make the team.

The Broncos have a total of 16 offensive linemen currently on the roster and Frank Crum, a solid undrafted player the team signed last year, will also be in the mix for one of those reserve tackle spots.

It will be an interesting position battle in camp and preseason games this year and the Broncos are likely keen on keeping several of these guys on the practice squad to use later this season or even in future seasons. The team has a great collection of talent along the offensive line.

If Truss can show that he could be versatile at both guard and tackle, he could easily take away a roster spot from a player like Peart or Palczewski. His odds of making the team have to be seen as pretty good going into the summer.
