The Denver Broncos coaching staff is being picked over as teams around the league look to fill vacancies created by this year’s coaching carousel.

Darren Mougey, who served as the team’s assistant general manager, was hired to be the general manager of the New York Jets. The Chicago Bears then chose tight ends coach Declan Doyle to be the new offensive coordinator under Ben Johnson.

The Detroit Lions needed to replace Johnson as their offensive coordinator and they have also come to the Broncos, taking John Morton off the staff. Morton was the Broncos’ passing game coordinator this past season, helping Bo Nix have a tremendous rookie season.

How many more coaches could the Broncos lose?

Broncos have some more great in-house coaching candidates

The Broncos have two coaches on the current staff who could easily be hired as coordinators soon. Defensive backs coach Jim Leonhard, who other teams have already looked at, has chosen to remain with the Broncos at least through the 2025 season.

In addition, quarterbacks coach Davis Webb seems like a sure bet to get a look as an offensive coordinator in the not-too-distant future. The Broncos will likely do whatever they can to keep both of these coaches for as long as possible and may need to consider them both for promotions as soon as next season.

The Broncos have already lost a member of the front office and two position coaches this offseason, showing that Sean Payton has assembled a great staff. The hope will be that the team keeps the remaining pieces that it has.
