Deebo Samuel enters the offseason with an uncertain future, as the veteran wide receiver reportedly requested a trade from the 49ers just ahead of the Super Bowl.

Samuel has played his entire six-year career in San Francisco, but he is coming off a down season with just 806 yards from scrimmage in 15 games. With the 49ers committed to Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk long-term, Samuel may not have as much of a future with San Francisco as he once did.

While Samuel may not be the best receiver on the move in the offseason, he is one of the bigger names available as teams try to improve their rosters. The wide receiver most likely wants to play with a contender and have a chance to get back to the Super Bowl.

Here’s breaking down the best fits for the veteran WR.

Deebo Samuel trade rumors: Best fits for 49ers WR

1. Denver Broncos

The Broncos finally solved their problem at quarterback, as Bo Nix solidified the position in his rookie year. Now, Denver will look to add more talent around Nix, and Samuel gives the team a unique skillset it currently doesn’t have and a good pair with Courtland Sutton.

Samuel even commented that he believes the Broncos are close to being a dangerous team.

“I just think you need a couple more pieces and it’ll be what it need to be, and [you] just have to get past Pat Mahomes every year,” he said, via Bleacher Report.

2. Houston Texans

The Texans have won the AFC South in each of the last two years, but in 2024 they dealt with a variety of injuries at the wide receiver position. Besides Nico Collins, Houston needs to add more weapons for C.J. Stroud, as Tank Dell is recovering from a major leg injury and Stefon Diggs is a free agent.

Samuel would not have to be the No. 1 receiver since Collins has that role down, allowing the veteran to give Stroud another experienced, versatile player in the passing game.

3. Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers have been looking for a wide receiver to pair with George Pickens for a while now, and Samuel may represent that opportunity. Pittsburgh reportedly tried to trade for Brandon Aiyuk last Summer, so the team has a history of negotiating with the 49ers.

While Samuel may not be what he once was, he can still add some explosiveness to a Steelers team that needs more on the offensive side of the ball.

4. Washington Commanders

After making it all the way to the NFC championship game, the Commanders have shown they are ready to compete with Jayden Daniels at quarterback. Now, Washington needs to add a wide receiver to play next to Terry McLaurin, as the position was one of the team’s weakest last year.

Samuel would be a really nice fit for Kliff Kingsbury’s offense and give the Commanders a veteran option for a young and relatively inexperienced team.
