De La Hoya Reveals Canelo vs. Crawford Daytime Fight on Netflix

De La Hoya Reveals Canelo vs. Crawford Daytime Fight on Netflix

Promoter Oscar De La Hoya revealed on social media that Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford will be shown during the day, not at night, on September 13th on Netflix. De La Hoya says the reason Canelo-Crawford is being shown during the day is to “accommodate UFC noche.”

De La Hoya: Canelo-Crawford Daytime

If what De La Hoya says is true, that the fight is going to be shown during the day, it’s going to disappoint a lot of fans. They’re used to seeing the fights during the evening on Saturday nights, and they won’t be happy that the UFC event takes that spot over Canelo’s match.

Oscar says Canelo doesn’t care about the fans or “Mexican tradition.” He states that Alvarez only “cares about the money.”

“What the media is reporting is that Canelo-Crawford is the biggest fight of the decade. To a purest and a fighter, it’s laughable,” said Oscar De La Hoya on X. “You have Crawford jumping up two weight classes to fight Canelo, who is a natural light heavyweight.”

Turki Alalshikh is the only one who is calling Canelo’s match against Crawford “the biggest fight.” It’s obviously not. It may get the biggest marketing push from him, but it won’t be the biggest this year because the fans aren’t interested in this match-up. It’s seen as two old guys, rooting around for money. Both looked their age in their last fights.

UFC Noche Shifts Canelo

“You have Crawford, who couldn’t push back [Israil] Madrimov. Life and death with Madrimov. What do you think Canelo is going to do to him?” said De La Hoya. “Run him out of the ring. Get this. The fight will take place during the day on September 13th in Las Vegas. So, Canelo will fight during the day on Netflix just to accommodate UFC noche later that evening on a different network.”

If Canelo goes on the attack the way Madrimov did, Crawford won’t be able to do much. Terence is not physically decided for 168, 160, or 154. He doesn’t have the natural power that comes from fighters who are designed for those weight classes. Crawford has aged, and he’s deteriorated due to his inactivity. He’s been fighting once a year for five solid years since 2020. Since he started making good money five years ago, his activity has slowed down.

“So, does that mean this fight is not important?” said De La Hoya. “Do they not give a f*** about the fans and the viewership? Why is it that Canelo has to fight during the day on Mexican Independence Day weekend? And the UFC, with a roster I’ve never heard of, is going on prime time on Cinco de Mayo. He’s fighting in Riyadh, and now he’s fighting during the day in the biggest weekend in boxing. ”

Turki hasn’t revealed yet what the time will be for Canelo vs. Crawford. But it would be upsetting if the fight does take place during the day, but it won’t matter if it results in fewer people signing up for Netflix. They have such a wide database that it’l still be watched, but it likely won’t be a huge amount of new subscribers because this isn’t a fight that fans are demanding. It’s one that Turki likes.

Canelo Prioritizes Money: Oscar

“Yeah, Canelo will fight anywhere, any time he’s told, because he doesn’t give a f***. All he cares about is the money. He doesn’t give a f*** about the fans, about the Mexican weekend tradition,” said De La Hoya.
